Nobody Owns This Thing!

A. Again, it's not one thing, it's many things 1. The military & Universities own original computers 2. Various phone companies own phone lines tying them together 3. Some governments own parts within their boarders 4. Schools and Universities are adding computers all the time 5. Commercial providers own many of the computers & switching/connecting equipment and are also adding to the pool daily B. It's people and companies giving permission to access their computers and networks as a service or for remuneration C. Who pays for the Internet? 1. No one central agency exists that charges individual Internet users 2. Individuals and institutions pay local or regional Internet access/service providers for their share of the services. 3. Those providers pay larger providers and/or phone companies for the bandwidth 4. Now, commercial retailers and manufacturers pay for advertising on other company's and individual's pages 5. Effectively, everyone who uses the internet in any way pays for a part of it!
